Jawad Haider Butt MD, PhD

Dr. Jawad Haider Butt received his medical degree from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2018, and he obtained his PhD degree in 2024. During his PhD course, he completed a research fellowship in heart failure at the BHF Cardiovascular Research Centre, University of Glasgow, UK, under the supervision of Prof. John J.V. McMurray.
Dr. Butt is currently training in cardiology and will complete his clinical cardiology fellowship in four years. Alongside his cardiology training, he is employed in a postdoc position at the Department of Cardiology, Copenhagen University Hospital Rigshospitalet, Denmark, and he serves on the editorial board of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC) as a fellow.
Dr. Butt’s research interests are heart failure, myocardial infarction, and cardiovascular epidemiology. He has vast experience with the large and unique Danish nationwide registries. He has been involved in the analysis of many pivotal randomized controlled trial datasets in heart failure (including DANISH, PARADIGM-HF, PARAGON-HF, DAPA-HF, DELIVER, and FINEARTS-HF) and myocardial infarction (including VERDICT and PARADISE-MI).
Despite his young age (34 years), Dr. Butt has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed original articles, and he is the lead author on 70 and the senior author on 25 of these. As a recognition of his research, Dr. Butt has been honored with several prestigious awards, including a Talent Prize from the Lundbeck Foundation in 2019 and a CardioVascular Clinical Trialists fellowship for promising researchers in 2024.
