
Michelle Kittleson MD, PhD

Michelle Kittleson is Professor of Medicine at Cedars-Sinai and Director of Education in Heart Failure and Transplantation at the Smidt Heart Institute. She graduated from Harvard College and received her medical degree from Yale University. She completed residency training at Brigham and Women's Hospital and cardiology fellowship at Johns Hopkins, where she also received a PhD in Clinical Investigation. Dr. Kittleson has served on writing committees for the ACC/AHA Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Guidelines and HF Guidelines. She has authored over 300 publications and has chaired multiple expert consensus documents for the ACC, AHA, and ISHLT on topics ranging from cardiac amyloidosis, dual organ transplantation, pregnancy after heart transplantation, heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, and obesity in heart failure. She is a past member of the Board of Directors for the Heart Failure Society of America, past Interim Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, and current Associate Editor for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. She is also a recipient of the ACC Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award in 2025. Her essays and poems have appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, JAMA Cardiology, and Annals of Internal Medicine. Her book, Mastering the Art of Patient Care, is available from Springer publishing.
