She was a bedside critical care RN for 16 years prior to becoming a board certified acute care nurse practitioner in 1997. She has been caring for heart failure patients in the hospital setting for 20 years in the advanced practice role. The population of patients she cares for require daily are Stage D requiring hemodynamic monitoring and continuous vasoactive agents to optimize and stabilize their decompensated states while being evaluated and /or waiting for advanced therapies such as cardiac transplant and mechanical ventricular assist devices (VAD). In her current role, she provides education to nurses and physicians-in-training on many topics, specifically on hemodynamic monitoring, vasoactive medication titration and the indications and management of VADs. She developed the durable VAD program at Tufts in conjunction with her physician leader through the education of staff, development of protocols, policies and procedures. She provides education and counseling to patients and their significant caregivers in the decisions surrounding treatments and the management of therapies once the treatment has been decided. She is the lead NP in the Advanced Heart Failure/Transplant/VAD Program and she provide direct care to patients and act as a consultant in planning and facilitating transitions in care from the acute care setting (hospital) to home or other facilities. She has presented at multiple national meetings on topics pertaining to my areas of cardiovascular expertise in nursing and have also published in these areas.
