Dr. Ponrathi Athilingam is a Tenured, Associate Professor at the University of South Florida College of Nursing. She is an acute care nurse practitioner who shares her expertise with her students and the community in which she lives.

Dr. Athilingam’s research is focused on auditory cognitive training and technology-based interventions for patients with heart failure to improve self-care practices, quality of life, and thus reduce hospital readmission rates. As a PI, she had received funding from Florida High-Tech Corridor, The CS Draper Laboratory, and National Science Foundation Innovation-Corps and designed a Mobile phone application called “Heart Mapp” to improve self-care of patients with heart failure at home. Currently, she received funding from National Institute of Health (NINR) small business innovation research (SBIR) grant to test HeartMapp with cognitive training as a device ready for commercialization. She is a Fellow of the Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA) and Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioner (FAANP).
