Jonathan D. Rich, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology, at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. He is also the Medical Director of the Mechanical Circulatory Support Program, as well as the Program Director of the Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Fellowship Program at Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute, Center for Advanced Heart Failure, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.


Dr Rich earned his MD from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York where he graduated with Honors (Alpha Omega Alpha). He completed a residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. He completed fellowships in cardiology and advanced heart failure and transplant at the University of Chicago Hospital, Pritzker School of Medicine, where he also served as chief fellow. He joined the faculty at the University of Chicago before being recruited to Northwestern.

Dr. Rich is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases, and advanced heart failure and transplant. He is a member of several professional organizations including the Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA), American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP), Pulmonary Hypertension Association, andthe International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation. Dr Rich is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, an elected member of the ACCP Pulmonary Vascular Disease Steering Committee, and is currently serving as a voting member of the HFSA’s Board of Directors.

Dr. Rich is also a prolific researcher having authored more than 150 original papers, abstracts, book chapters, and review articles including those published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation: Heart Failure, JACC: Heart Failure, and the Journal of heart and Lung Transplantation. Dr. Rich is also an ad hoc reviewer for several medical journals, including the Journal of Cardiac Failure, Chest, Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, and Circulation.
